Africa
in Chaos
by George B. N. Ayittey Any reader interested in the science of international
politics should add this book to their "must-read" list. Dr. Ayittey focuses
on the roots of collapse in Africa in the face of potential condemnation
from "Africa-owners" sensitive to blunt discourse on failures of African
leadership. Africa needs more open critical analysis of this type if it
is ever to shake the torpor of economic collapse. Dr. Ayittey speaks of
Africa as a parent speaks of a wayward child- he is critical and harsh,
but he obviously loves the place.

The
Black Man's Burden : Africa and the Curse of the Nation-State
by Basil Davidson Is this Basil Davidson's summation of his career? If it
is, he can be proud that he brought to life aspects of history that, for
generations, was left either buried, or unsaid. This book is an excellent
analysis of post colonial Africa that is accessable to the main stream
reader and to the person who is also already versed in aspects of African
history.

The
Africans
by David Lamb As a European who first arrived in the continent five
months ago I have found this book enthralling. The Africans provides one
with a thorough grounding on African mentality, on the continents dark
past and in some ways of its bright future. It is a must for anyone endeavouring
to understand the present failures and successes of this fascinating and
highly complex continent.
