Nervous
Conditions : A Novel
by Tsitsi Dangarembga Strong women overcome colonial and patriarchial oppression
Dangarembga's novel tells an inspiring novel about the strength of women
in post-colonial Rhodesia. The poignant narrative about Tambu and her family
creates parallels between the oppressive nature of a patriarchial family
structure and the colonial system of government.

The
Joys of Motherhood
by Buchi Emecheta This is my second book by Emecheta and I was doubly impressed.
I could not put it down. Emecheta knows the love the African Woman has
for her children. With all the troubles this mother experienced she still
saw the joy in being a mother. Beautiful, just beautiful. 'Kehinde'

Aké:
The Years of Childhood
by Wole Soyinka Beautifully written and evocative. I don't normally like
autobiography but this is poetry and magic. This is a childhood you wish
you'd lived. Alive with energy and emotionally and sensually drenched the
descriptions dance along. Beware it's a hard read to put down and you will
be searching for the sequel!!
